Working with a designer

"I do work very closely with my brides, as I want to achieve perfection for them, on their special day. After I have produced the initial sketches for the bride, I then make a toile, which is a complete 'mock-up' of the final dress silhouette, so the bride is assured of the look before the wedding dress fabric is cut. By doing this I find that the bride can really get inspired by the process and chip in ideas which add to the unique look of the dress and the experience.

It is as important to have your initial meeting with your designer as, say, your photographer to see if you like their personality and will be able to work with them. I endeavour to keep meetings informal and take as much time as is needed. One of my most recent clients was very nervous in the last stages of wedding preparation, so we had many chats and drank a lot of tea, which she says really helped calm her nerves."

Pictures featured

Top: Romantic pin-tuck dress - Indian silk dupion which is pin-tucked on the bodice and skirt. The back of the dress is laced.

2: Pride and Prejudice dress - This dress is inspired by the empire line dresses featured in Pride and Prejudice. The bodice is in brocade, which has a subtle gold and ivory flower design. The skirt is in Duchess satin. The back of this dress has a very steep 'V' shape which is laced - not what you'd expect on an empire line, but it gives a modern twist to this classic design.

3. Red crinoline dress - This dress has a really full skirt with a overskirt in the same colour which is gathered slightly into the hem edge. The bodice is tight fitting around the waist and then has in-set gathers over the bust. The fabric is Indian silk dupion which looks fantastic in photos - it really is beautiful.

Bottom pic: Wedding in the sun - The inspiration for this dress is for those lucky brides who are going abroad for their wedding. It would be ideal for a wedding on the beach. From the front the dress is demure and simple, but the back is cut really low, adding a bit of va va voom!
