A symbolic reminder of your day

Choosing your rings together can be very romantic. I suggest putting aside an afternoon and walking around a few shops with your partner and try on different styles, with a few breaks for coffee and cake in between!

The wedding band itself can be more tricky than you think if you decide that you and your partener want something similar. Some friends had this dilemma as he had typical mens fingers which are short and wide, and she has what my mother refers to as 'piano players fingers'! - long and thin. Therefore wide bands looked awful on him and thin bands were lost on her. After trying on rings from various jewellers they came to the conclusion that a medium width plain platinum band was right for him. For her they chose again a medium width platinum band that has a gold thread wound round the band on the diagonal creating an optical illusion of a wider band. The perfect compromise.

The other dilemma that you might well be faced with is how your wedding band sits on your finger next to an engagement ring. If you have short fingers be aware that the two rings will give more width to the overall look. Also note that the two rings might well rub on each other over the years so ask your jeweller for advise. Consider, for example, that silver and gold are softer metals than platinum.

Whatever you decide your ring will become the symbol of your union that will remind you of all the best things that happened on your wedding day.
