Creating the perfect you
I think the first thing you really have to consider with hair and beauty is whether you want to go down the aisle as yourself or as a completely different version of you. I have been talking to two brides recently and the one wanted to be entirely natural while the other is going to be a 'princess' for the day!
To achieve a natural look I would still recommend having a hairdresser and beautician to hand, as you really deserve the pampering on your special day, but go to see them looking your best, in terms of your hair and make-up. Make the hair dresser aware that this is how you would like to look and they will then suggest how to just add that bit of glamour. My 'natural' friend wanted to have her hair in a bun, which is her usual look, so the hair dresser, having been told the dress was inspired by classical grecian statues decided to tease some of the hair out of the bun for ringlets. Her make-up was minimal as her beautician advised a fake tan which she appiled a week before.
My 'Princess' bride has had her hair high lighted and extensions put in in the last few weeks, ready for the wedding in August. I would say if you are going to have something really 'new to you' done, to get it early so you have time to consider it - just incase!
How your hair is done is likely to be guided by your hair type. I recently attended a photoshoot where one of the models had very fine hair; luckily, we were not using any accessories with a comb attachment, or they wouldn't have stayed in her hair for long. For fine hair, a headband-style tiara is ideal and should stay in place nicely.
Talk to your hairdresser about how they attach hair decorations, after all they are the experts. If possible, have the tiara or veil at your hair consultation.
Ask your chief bridesmaid to keep you advised on your hair. When your veil is taken back off your face at the altar, then you go to sign the register you might find your fringe has flattened. Get her to give you a quick check before the photos are taken.
My final thought on hair, being the romantic that I am, is to ask your partner if he likes your hair up or down. Would he prefer to see you as you look on a daily basis, with just a little more glamour, or could he cope with a new look for the day? I think you’ll be surprised how many guys like your most natural look, it’s only us girls that adhere to what we perceive as glamorous.
