Flowers

The starting point for all the flowers used on the wedding day is the Brides bouquet. The bouquet dictates the colour-ways for the flowers used in the church at your Venue. Here are a few considerations:

Top of the list are allergies, so many people have hayfever these days, don’t ruin your day by having flowers in the bouquet that make your eyes itch and run. A few tears of emotion are fine but a full ‘streamer’ would be a disaster. If you really have a problem then consider fake flowers, there are some terrific silk flowers on the market.

When deciding on the bouquet, if at all possible take a sample of the wedding dress cloth to the florist. If this is not possible then the shoes or a veil would help. What you need to watch out for is the bouquet being too subtle. In some wedding photos the bouquet can be too ivory and just disappear, into the ivory dress. One solution is to get just enough green foliage round the outer edges of the bouquet. Ask your florist to advise if you want to achieve a subtle ‘look’.

Another consideration for the bouquet is size. If you are petite a large bouquet will swamp you and look heavy. Take a photo or describe your dress to the florist and she will again be able to advise you on proportion. Usually you will be able to try a few bouquets at most florists. Use them as a guide, even if they are the wrong colour you can still stipulate that you want it the size of the one you’ve held.
Most florists have got books of design examples or ideas. A good florist will be able to create a bouquet inspired by your ideas.
